Wisconsin Craft Breweries

Last updated August, 2025

An unofficial exhaustive list compiled according to these terms.

Microbreweries

A Microbrewery is defined as a brewery that makes less than 15,000 barrels per year, and sells 75% or more of their beer at offsite locations1. If a brewery has multiple locations, they will only be listed once, in the category with the largest facility.

Taprooms

A Taproom is similar to a Microbrewery, but sells 25% or more of their beer onsite. So, a Microbrewery = less than 25%, Taproom = more than 25%. Taprooms (or Microbreweries) can also sell food and call themselves “brewpubs”, but they focus more on the beer.

Brewpubs

A once simple concept, suddenly not so simple. Basically, a Taproom that also makes a significant portion of its sales through food.

Client Brewers

Ohhh boy. According to RateBeer.com: “A Client Brewer is business entity that does not own its own brewing equipment but instead arranges to use existing brewing facilities to produce their owned-recipe beers. They can sometime also have a physical location (waiting for their brewing licenses for example)”2

There are many client/contract breweries in Wisconsin, but these are the ones we deemed “Count” in the overall list, for the following reasons: 1) Their beer is brewed in Wisconsin and 2) It is sold on tap in a dedicated location that we as Drinkers can visit in person.

  • 3 Dachshunds Beer Company – they brew their beer at Stone Arch Brewpub in Appleton, and you can order their beer on tap at that location. Counts.
  • Essers Cross Plains Brewery
  • Hacienda – They have* a Milwaukee location but brew their beer at Door County Brewing. Counts. (*The Milwaukee location closed in summer of 2025).
  • Herbiery
  • Kurth Brewery – Technically a bar and not a brewery (they do not brew any beer onsite), but there is a beer dedicated to Kurth that is sold at this location and it’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places due to its history as a brewery, so…Counts.
  • Fountain City Brewing Company – only found at Monarch Public House
  • Milwaukee Brewing Company – recently purchased by Eagle Park, which still brews their original recipes and branding, and sells on tap at their locations. Counts.
  • Old Bavarian Brewing Company – This location has both a traditional restaurant and a night club (yes, you read that right) and while they don’t brew their traditional German beer onsite, it is brewed at the Fox River Brewing Co and is available only at this location on tap. Counts.
  • Rhinelander Brewing Company LLC – They do brew their own beer, just not onsite at their current taproom. But they DO have a dedicated taproom, so Counts.
  • Rookery Brewing Company – This brewery looks like it is transitioning to the old MobCraft location, at least during part of the year. We will eventually investigate, but for now it Counts.
  • Sassy Girl Micro Brew (Trout Springs Winery) – Their beer is sold on tap in the Trout Springs Winery.
  • Tank 8 – It’s unclear why this is listed as its own brewery instead of just being a part of Fermentorium where it’s brewed, but it is a beer that you can get on tap at Fermentorium in Cedarburg so…Counts.
